Just ate some fruit at The Skillet House and let me tell ya it was some great fruit! Also, they have amazing breakfast and their cheeseburger club was muy bien

Went here earlier this week after I had an appointment in the area. It was around lunch time but was seated right away. Decided on a Gypsy style skillet with mushrooms, ham, cheese, and peppers on a bed of potatoes. Took the French Toast as my side and enjoyed a great brunch. Also had my coffee cup refilled a few times...major bonus this time around. Will be back again...and perhaps in the meantime will also try their 2nd restaurant over in Tinley park.

Great staff, great food, a little small, but worth it. My favorite dish is the chilaquiles! Yummy! I like that they Mexican and American breakfast dish. I go there with the family practically every other weekend!

Previously: Not my best visit here. Took ten minutes to have my order taken. Fifteen for my med-rare steak that was at least med if not well done (and very chewy.) Sent it back and seemed to fluster the server. Asked them to just turn it into eggs Benedict with the existing eggs and hollandaise so as to not waste food (or more time) and there was more fluster. Got something else. Sheesh. Well, I never posted the last one so I'll just finish with today's visit. My perennial complaint with this place is that they will not let you have a pancake instead of hash browns or fruit. You'd have to get a short stack, which is another $5, if you want one pancake; there is no smaller order and they allow no substitutions. Today I had house Benedict, which comes on potato pancakes, and they STILL wouldn't let me have a sweet pancake instead of hash browns. My only other option was fruit, which I have at home. I asked the young man in charge why, and he said it's just policy. They make no exceptions. There is apparently some major operational reason why they just can't. He said he'll ask the "chef" (really???) and the owner. There is no rational reason not to make a customer happy with such simple request. Pancakes aren't harder to make than hash browns, don't cost more, and every other breakfast place on the PLANET lets you have a freakin pancake as a side option with a meal. The poor servers don't get it either and they must get asked often based on their sheepish responses every time. Do the owners think letting people have this will cause a massive run on pancakes? Start a hideous personalization trend that will cause major upheaval in their little operation? Throw the planets off course? It's stupid, it's nonsense, and with 20 otter equally good breakfast joints within a two-mile area, it's bad business practice. You know what? I think I just won't go there anymore. Problem solved! Dopey me for ever going back after the first time. D'oh! Oh, and the house Benedict was merely ok. Not enough bacon and eggs were overdone.

Honestly you can't find a better skillet anywhere else. I'm not even that big of a pancakes fan but theirs is amazing. So fluffy and delicious! Huge portions; we usually order the special skillet to go and split between 2-3 people.

Saturday morning and I was seated right away at 9:30. I can see where parking would be a problem bc when I left there were people waiting on parking spots. The food was cooked just the way I liked it but so greasy. I had the veggie skillet and it was sitting in a puddle of grease. I ended up squeezing the butter out of my english muffin.

breakfastrules.blogspot.… We then had to disperse to prepare for the ending of the breakfast scout formerly known as Frank. The Skillet House was a wise choice for this outing. It was local, quick and accommodating. I found the Polish Skillet to be the perfect greasy, fatty, eggy dish that would hold me over until the reception. Frank also enjoyed his Special Skillet on his special day. Guitar Man and Moose also were pleased with their #2 Specials. The Handy Dutchman, who I think said two words this entire time, enjoyed his apple cinnamon crepes. The service was good, quick and unobtrusive despite the fact I was scolded for "not smiling." Sorry, breakfast blogging is hard work. All in all, The Skillet House gets a hearty rating of 3.75 Brent faces.

Love this place!! Everything bout it that hole in the wall down south comfort feeling I get, decent prices, friendly service and amazing food! I go at least once a week there when I get a chance!

This place knows skillet breakfasts. I used to go to a place years ago that closed. The decor is cute, homey, warm. The staff were genuinely friendly. I had expectations (hopes) when I ordered my skillet, and it came exactly how I imagined it should be. The helpings were plentiful as well. So glad that there are still local businesses thriving.

I bookmarked Skillet House on Yelp about 6 months ago, and finally got around to giving it a try! First things first, its located in a kind of a strip mall area, so parking might be a bit of a challenge depending on how buys they are. I went when it was snowing so that made it even worse, but I was still able to find a spot after a few minutes of waiting. Also, because of said strip mall location, the inside/seating area is a little small and a little close together. The upside to this is that you'll definitely get a good look at all the other menu options because your pretty close to the other tables around you to see what they ordered. Now to the food. The name certainly does the menu justice. I've never seen quite the extensive selection of skillets, and I do love me a good breakfast skillet. I got the philly steak skillet minus mushrooms because I despise the vile fungus. The skillet was really good, the steak was actually decent and didn't taste like some questionable scrap meat that was left over. The eggs and veggies in the skillet were also good. You get an option of a side of toast, pancakes, or french toast too. My friend got the Italian Skillet, which was a mixture of italian sausage, marinara, eggs, and some other things that I can't remember. It looked pretty good and I didn't hear any complaints about it. I also tried a cup of their soup, I went with Cream of Potato. It was a little different then I was used to, it had dill in it, which I thought was weird when I first saw it, but it actually made the soup pretty good. I'd recommend Skillet House to try, they had to have at least 15 different kinds of skillets, a lot of which I've never seen before including but not limited to Seafood Skillets, and a Gyro Skillet. Just expect cramped quarters and possible a wait.

Food quality was average. Food quantity less than average. Price outrageous. 2 skillets, 1 corned beef hash and eggs breakfast 36 bucks. Service was not great food was cold had to find waitress for coffee. Even if the value was there which it wasn't, I would never go back. It was uncomfortably cramped. The four top they sat us at literally was small for a 2 top. We had to take condiments off our table and put on another just to get plates for 3 people to fit, with no sides. Overpriced and underszed portions and seating

This place has been rocking my socks since I first moved to Oak Lawn in 2000. I guess you can call me a regular. The waitresses and owner know me and my mom and I'm pretty sure I've been ordering the same thing since I was 12: Strawberry Belgium waffle with whipped cream and a chocolate milk. The waitresses already know I'm going to order it before I even say anything. Sometimes I like to throw them for a loop and order something else. This place might not look like much from the outside, but the food is so good and it's always busy. My mom and some friends have had the skillets, which are good. The omelets are huge. 4 EGGS! When I do want an omelet, I ask them to cook it with two eggs instead, and trust me, that's enough. If you're an Olympic swimmer-in-training, you can have a side of pancakes instead of toast to supplement your 4,000 calorie diet. Otherwise, why would you ask for that much food? The lunch is pretty good too. I'm in love with the soup. Cream of carrot or chicken is delicious. Anytime I'm sick, I have my mom get me this soup. Makes me feel a million times better. The owner is really nice and has opened a new restaurant in Orland Park somewhere. I miss seeing him, but I'm glad his business is doing well enough for him to open another restaurant. His family is good people. His sons/relatives work there. Nice family restaurant and my go-to place for breakfast whenever I'm back in Oak Lawn.

My friend and I came here for the first time yesterday. This place does a booming business! The restaurant was packed when we got inside. Staff was very friendly. The cinnamon French toast was so good! I will definitely be coming back to this place.

I've been a regular at the Skillet House for years. I love the omelets. My fav is egg whites with avocado, tomato, spinach and bacon. The serving is huge and delicious. Maybe because I'm a regular I take service for granted. The waitstaff knows what I want, how I like it and if I forget something they remind me. How could ask for more. Sure it's small and not a high class breakfast joint, but I love it. Don't want crowds...well I'm and early bird and get there really early so I never have a problem with a seat, service, or food. Just relax and enjoy.

I like this place. It's homey and had a very large menu. I got a veggie skillet with two pancakes and egg whites for $7. I didn't even finish it.

Side choice of toast, pancakes, or French toast. Gluten free menu!!! I'm in heaven. Don't be taken aback by the whole in the wall appearance, the food here is delicious.

This is a small place with good food and a friendly staff. Skillets are really good here. Really busy on the weekend, but weekdays are better. Their french toast is not that great, but the belgium waffles and pancakes are good.

Sunday's is the day I take my 84 yr old Mother out for breakfast. We came across this place a few months back. I, myself have never been very impressed with this place but my Mom likes it, so I go. I've put up with this lackluster place because she likes it, but no more! First of all the place is filthy. From the nasty bathroom to the tacky plastic flowers and run of the mill country motif knick knacks on the wall. All of which is coated in a THICK layer of dirt and dust which, by the way, like it or not, ultimately winds up in your food. It's TRUE. The carpet is disgusting and should be taken out back and burned. This place also has the worst seating I have ever had the displeasure of having to sit in. On one Sunday I took a minute and mentioned this fact to the manager, a mean and unprofessional Nazi, who, didn't want to hear anything negative, and immediately snapped her head around and shot me a look that should have made me turn around and never go back right then and there, but I didn't. Well, I have finally reached the point of no return with this place after what transpired this past Sunday. Mom and I went there again because she wanted to and we requested a booth as they are not the torture on your back that the cheap chairs are. While being seated I saw that they had mini Belgium waffles which I love and hadn't seen offered there before. It looked like they were offered as a side on a breakfast so when the waitress came to our table I asked about them and was told that they were not offered as a side like the pancakes and French toast and were ONLY available on one of their breakfast specials or as a complete order. I told her that I wanted to get ham and eggs (not the breakfast special that had sausage & bacon) and I would be happy to pay an upcharge to get the waffles. I was told NO! That was their rules. I was dumbfounded. What could be so hard to do what I was asking? What would motivate a restaurant to be so inflexible where such an easy request was concerned and the CUSTOMER was willing to pay extra. She wouldn't budge. Thinking that a quick word with a manger might rectify the situation, I asked to speak with the manager. Well, low and behold, here comes the NAZI. She had a scowl on her face and I could immediately see she was going to be unprofessional. Which she immediately was. I told her I couldn't understand how, if I was willing to pay extra to get what I wanted, they were unwilling to accommodate such a simple request. She got real nasty and told me that I have a problem EVERY time I come in there, loud enough so many of the tables around me heard what she said. I was upset and felt like I had been slapped in my face. My mother and I got up and left. I will never return and I will, at every opportunity let anyone I know who spends money eating out to steer clear of this place. They obviously don't care about the cleanliness of their place nor the impact it has on the people who eat food in their establishment. That manager and that particular waitress who served us that morning have not one clue what customer service is and If it were my establishment, they would have been fired immediately. In this day and age when every type of business is struggling to keep the doors open, having a hard time paying their employees, rent, vendors, etc. every customer counts even "difficult" customers like me. Maybe no one has bothered to tell these people their seating sucks and is so bad it actually hurts for people with arthritis, like my mother, to sit in those crappy chairs. It's called feedback people. Many business owners, such as myself, invites their customers to share their feedback. It is what will make you better at what you do and how you do it. Negative or positive, it is all valid and should be listened to, at the very least. This place does not serve horrible food and has a staff of many Hispanic young men that are very polite and helpful. They are Johnny on the spot with the coffee and water or whatever else you might ask them for. I think these guys understand the worth of "The Customer" and how it relates to the "Level of the Service. Maybe one of these gentlemen would be a better choice for a manager. If I was an owner that could have the benefit of a forum like Yelp , I would seriously consider and use the feedback that is offered. It's an invaluable tool. Too often we do not see what is right under our noses. In the meantime I will not give your establishment any more of my money. I work too hard servicing my customers in order to earn their trust and business to turn it over to people who don't appreciate or haven't earned my business. I have over 35 years of customer service and sales experience under my belt so I'm not just blowing smoke here. Clean your restaurant! Fire or at the very least reprimand your manager. Remind her who ultimately pays her salary. Watch Restaurant Stakeout, Food Network. Willy D knows

If you like cream of potato soup have a bowl, and please tell me what you think. Holy moly home made goodnessssss, it's pretty amazing. We were there for lunch and the prices for a sandwich which was also good, fries and soup were like 5.99. Better than a freakin coupon! Small place, drove by it a million times and never noticed it, but worth the stop if your looking for a sit down, comfy, family style breakfast/lunch place for a good price in that area. 4 STARS!!

I have a few friends who love this place and we will come here in small groups for skillets. The place can be crowded and is small but worth the short wait. Customer service is good. I'm a picky eater and they've also accommodated my special requests and done it right. Food is always hot and delicious. Large portions, might want to bring some home with you.

Save your stomach and your money. This was the most disgusting breakfast I have ever eaten at a restaurant. Service was ok. The silverware was filthy, I had to request new tools, and the coffee cup had lipstick on it. The eggs were dry, the bacon was flavorless. Thank God they didn't screw up the toast or I would have been hungry when we left. Then I used the unisex bathroom and it was ansolutely filthy! If I had used the washroom first, we never would have eaten there! No stars at all for this dive! Look around at the 'decor' which was laden with dust and I think there since the 1950's, including the dirt! Stay away!! Don't even thin Restaurant Impossible would touch it!!!!!!

ALMOST dont want to review this spot because it can already get pretty crowded on weekend mornings. But They deserve it. So here it is. Its a Family restaurant, run by a friendly owner and his on top of it staff. From the funny and friendly waitresses to the attentive and quick busboys. You get coffee that doesnt taste like Sock water, and will keep getting it till you say NO MORE! You've barely settled in from ordering your food before the juice and dishes are on their way out. the chefs are FAST and PRECISE. Best part about this place is that you can order a side order of pancakes (2) instead of toast with mostly any dish. So you can satisfy that sweets craving even though you wanted a skillet *sooo many to choose from* or an Omellette*about the same amount of variety. A delicious treat for those wanting pure sweet goodness, are the Swedish pancakes (3 thin Large pancakes served with a special and delicious lingonberry sauce) or the Pepe's Crepes. 3 thin and delicious crepes 1 each of Cherry *Fresh Cherries mind you, Blue Berry and Strawberry and sour cream. Have only been here once for Lunch, and was pleased with their chicken salad sandwhich. But they serve Breakfast all day so I"d stick with that. :)

Bad Egg - don't mess with owner of this place (short heavyset blond female). Although the food was decent, service was poor at best. My order was wrong but no one ever came back to check. When the waitress finally returned I told her my skillet had cheese when I asked twice to be sure there was none and my toast was white and not wheat. I said she could take it back and requested the charges be removed. She told me she had requested no cheese and the owner said I could have $2 deducted from my bill. I went to pay the bill and attempted to discuss the issue with the owner. She yelled at me and said I did not try hard enough to send back my order! What happened to service recovery, not to mention the customer is always right?
